Yankees 6, Royals 1-Pettite and Cabrera power Yankees to avoid sweep

After sleeping through the first two games against the Royals, the Yankees played a solid game tonight to beat the Royals, 6-1, and avoid the sweep.

Andy Pettite was great tonight, going 6.2 innings and only giving up one run in the first inning. From there on, the veteran lefty was solid and kept the Royals at bay, which allowed the Yankees bats to get going.

Although the Yankees did not have a grand output of runs, they managed some tonight. Melky Cabrera went yard and plated another, while A-Rod and Jorge went deep in the ninth. The Yankees 12 hits were the most this season.

The Yankees line-up today was interesting with Jose Molina, Alberto Gonzalez and Morgan Ensberg in there, but they still got the job done today. Next up for the Yanks, the Red Sox, who enter with the same record (5-5).

The Yankees needed this win today or they would have been in serious trouble.

Pitching match-ups:
Wang v. Buccholz
Mussina v. Beckett
Hughes v. Dice-K

I like the Yankees in the first and Boston in the second, with the third game being up in the air.
