Top 20 Countdown-No. 2-Boone deep to left

You know the story. You know the history. You know the moment.

Yankees-Red Sox. ALCS Game 7. World Series Bid on the line.

The Yankees trailed early as the Bo Sawx got on the board behind a homerun by Trot Nixon and added another run on an error by Yankees third baseman Enrique Wilson to take a 3-0 lead. Millar then added a solo shot of his own to make the score 4-0.

I remember sitting at home watching the game in my kitchen thinking the season was over to our worst enemies and what a crappy way to end the season.

But the Yankees fought back behind a fifth inning homerun by Jason Giambi, and then another homerun by the Giambino in the seventh to make it 4-2.

But Boston got that run back on a Big Papi homerun to make it 5-2. All hope seemed lost at that point.

Nick Johnson popped out to start the bottom of the eigth. Down to five outs.

And then the most magical moments I have ever seen in baseball transpired.

Derek Jeter, Captain Clutch, doubles to right. Bernie Williams singles up the middle to make it 5-3. Hideki Matsui then hits a ground-rule double to move Williams to third. Up comes Jorge Posada.

Posada swings at a Pedro Martinez pitch. The ball barely sails out of the infield. Todd Walker runs after it. Nomar Garciaparra runs after it. The ball drops in center and Williams and Matsui score. THE YANKEES TIED IT! PANDEMONIUM IN THE BRONX!

From there, both teams battled into extra innings. In the top of the 11th, Mariano Rivera struck out Doug Mirabelli to end the frame. Things looked bleak for the Yankees from there because Mo was done and the Sawx had Tim Wakefield going who had been dominant against the Yankees that series.

Up steps Aaron Boone. And Charlie Steiner had the call:

"His first at bat of the game, and THERE'S A FLY BALL DEEP TO LEFT! IT'S ON ITS WAY! THERE IT GOES! AND THE YANKEES ARE GOING TO THE WORLD SERIES! AARON BOONE HAS HIT A HOME RUN, AND THE YANKEES WIN THE AMERICAN LEAGUE PENNANT FOR THE 39TH TIME IN THEIR REMARKABLE HISTORY!"

My favorite part of this whole moment was that as soon as the ball left Boone's bat yo could hear New York, New York playing in the background.

The YANKEES WON THE PENNANT!

Aaron Boone really did nothing else in his career, but in one moment, became a Yankees legend.
