Red Sox 4, Yankees 3-Yankees gamble proves to be the game

The Manny Ramirez powered Red Sox beat the Yankees today 4-3 on a pitch that Joe Girardi and Mike Mussina would love to have back.

With two runners on in the sixth and two outs, Manny Ramirez stepped up to the plate. Manny had already blasted an absolute bomb over the monster. The Yankees could have walked him to load the bases for the not as dangerous Kevin Youkilis. But instead the Yankees pitched to him.

Now in this spot, when you do pitch to him, you don't give him anything he can hit.

Mike Mussina though gave him a nice fastball over the outside that Manny just drove the other way for the go ahead rbis.

And to make matters worse, Brian Bruney then allowed Youkilis to drive in Manny for the rbi that proved to the game winner.

Josh Beckett was dealing for the first five innings. The man was unhitable. But the Yankees were able to rally for six runs and take the lead. But then Mussina blew it.

Mike Mussina was given a lead and a real chance to put a dent into the Red So, but couldn't hold a lead.

The Yankees then rallied for a run, but could not rally in the end.

A-Rod had a chance to tie the game with two men on and two out, but fanned on three pitches to end the eight against Papelbon, and then Cano, Posada and Giambi went down in the ninth.

The Yankees did what they could today, but the real blame in this loss comes down to Mike Mussina. The veteran pitcher needs to be able to hold the lead, but he could not and it hurt the Yankees.

Tomorrow, big game: Phil Hughes vs Dice-K. Phil Franchise needs to pick up the win.
