Records- Shelton 16-7, 6-0 SCC "B"

Essentially I was one match off in my prediction. Good job for Margolies to pick up the win. Going to admit I had 171 and 215 as Shelton wins. Hand wins the final five maches to seal the deal so Shelton did lead 25-18 with five to go, but hand is so strong is those middle weights.

I correctly predicted
11/14 weights winners (some variations in pins, decisions, etc)

Syracuse 60, DePaul 55

Another gritty win for the Orange. This team is really impressing me in how it can fight through the challenge of only having six scholarship players available

Although I still think the team is one year away, Syracuse still did a great job and should feel proud of itself.

The next two games will be huge in terms of trying to make a case for an NCAA bid. Wins over Nova on the road and UConn at home would be quality wins.

Tigers to take down Gaels

Gaels are on a roll but the Tigers will benefit from getting Fish and Onofrio back. I also might be generous in giving Shelton some pins I did but the prediction here:

39-30 Hand

Santana to Mets pending contract

The Twins have agreed to trade Johan Santana to the Mets for Humber, Mulvey, Gomez and Guerra. The trade will be finalized once the Mets hammer out a contract.

GREAT, MAY I REPEAT, GREAT deal for the Mets.

All i have to say to Brian Cashman is he better hope Phil Hughes, Alan Horne and Austin Jackson turn out to be perennial all-stars.

I'll comment more on this later once the deal is finalized.

Congratulations SHS

Congratulations to my former team, Shelton High School Wrestling, for getting its first ever votes in the CT High School Wrestling Poll. The votes which put Shelton at 16th were well-earned for the Gaels. Keep it going!

Feliz to Phillies

Pedro Feliz signs with the Phillies today. A good signing for the Phillies. Although Feliz is not great offensively, moving to one of the most prolific hitters parks in baseball should help him improve his sub-par numbers. The Phillies also get a great defensive player, who just recently won a gold glove. Also, Feliz is better than anything the Phillies had at the position.

Baseball trade talks heating up

This week could be a huge week for baseball fans as two of the top pitchers in the game could be dealt by the end of this week.

According to various reports, Lefty Erik Bedard could be headed to Seattle, but if that does not work, might be going to the Cubs. Both would be good places for Bedard, as he would be on contending teams. And the Yankees also wont have to see him as much (or at all with the Cubs) so I approve of the trade.

Santana is the interesting trade. This has been going on now for weeks. Where is he going to go? Yankees? Mets? Red Sox? All I know is that I want this to end. Either trade him or keep him. And I am one of the people who believes the Yankees should give up Hughes for Santana.

Syracuse 71, Providence 64

Syracuse needed this win today and prevailed despite a short bench. Syracuse is now 14-7 and 4-4 in the Big East. The way I see things, Syracuse needs to go 8-2 over its final 10 games to make the NCAA Tournament. If i was to evalute our resume right now I would classify it as:

Good wins-@Virginia
Wins that don't do much-St. Joseph's, Washington, Providence
Losses that might hurt-Ohio State, UMass, URI
Losses that hurt-Cincinnati, Villanova

I know that Cincy has heated it up and Nova was ranked when they beat the Orange, but Cincy did lost to Bowling Green and Belmont and doens't win outside of Cincy. Villanova, on the other hand, can't win in the Big East. Losing to Rutgers, come on.

Syracuse's remaining schedule is as follows(in no order):
@DePaul
@Nova
UConn
Gtown
@ND
@SH
@Louisville
Marquette
Pitt
@USF

I believe we have to go 8-2 because in doing so, the team will pick up several wins that will help toward building a resume. That would also put Syracuse at 22-9 which is impressive. Also, with the emergence of team's like URI, Drake, St. Mary's, teams that have made the tournament conistently might be watching from home.

On a side note, the NHL All-Star game tonight was great.
