Yankees 2, Rays 0-Wanger and Godzilla get the job done

Yankees beat the Rays, 2-0, behind a great performance by Chien-Mien Wang and a 2-run shot by Hideki Matsui,

Wanger was great, pitching six solid innings and giving up no runs. His sinker was on and his other pitches were working as well. His six strikeouts today showed that he was able to get the batters to chase.

Joba Chamberlain did a great job out of the bullpen, getting six outs, including getting out of a man on third and first, no-out situation. Joba pitching two innigns i something Yankees fan should get used to this year.

Mariano was of course Mariano. He pitched a great ninth inning and has converted all three of his saves opportunities so far.

The offense was able to pick up hits today, but still could not put together an offensive output. The only runs came off one swing by Matsui. It was nice to see, though, Cano get his swing back and pick up two hits including a nice double down the line. Abreu looked fooled at the plate today.

All in all, a nice Sunday game for the Yankees. Tomorrow is a big game as the Bronx bombers go for the split. Mike Mussina needs to rebound from his first start. Let's see how he does.
